America is by far the greatest country the world has ever seen. America doesn’t just worry about themselves they worry about the world as a whole. Whenever a disaster happens in another country the U.S is always their ready to help. America also has the most powerful military in the world. They use the military to insure that peace is kept throughout the world. Also the country is set up so everyone is given a chance for success it is the persons choice whether or not they use their chance. The standard of living is much better in America then it is in most other countries. Almost everyone has a meal to look forward to or running water. In a lot of countries running water is almost none existent. Everything that America does affects everyone in the world whether they know it or not. If America wasn’t around then they would be nonstop war in the world because there would be no deciding force to put and end to it. Technology would be almost nonexistent if America wasn’t around. Look at all the important inventions that has come out of American soil. These inventions have helped mankind greatly. Ever since the U.S became a power technology has skyrocketed into what it is today. That’s why America is the most powerful country in the world.

Ryan Kelley has many imporant points in his opinion. However, in my opinion, I believe America is not the greatest country in the world. The debate we watched today changed my decision from pro to con about this. In the United States, not everyone is equal and not everyone has the same rights. In the United States, money gives oppurtunities. For example, one might be able to go to a very good school because of the money they have. However, another person might not be able to go to this school because of the cost. This is not fair to the people in this world that do not have the same amount of money others have. No one in this world will ever have the same privledges others have.
Another reason why the United States is not the best country in the world is because of violence. In the debate today, the "con" side stated that credible violence in our country has dramatically increased. There has been a 560% increase in violence. The United States has spent 49 Billion dollars to stop criminalization as well. Our country is not even rated in the top ten countries
In order for the United States to be the best or one of the best countries, it needs to terminate internal problems.

America is most certainly not the greatest country and the debate today proved that further. The fact is not everyone in this country has an equal opportunity to recourses needed to succeed. Many young individuals can’t afford to go to college because they don’t have the money, while the rich will always have that opportunity because they have money. How can a country make such a claim when those who have the money have infinite opportunities but those who need and deserve it don’t receive it? It doesn’t help the fact that the divide between rich and poor is expanding due to the economic recession. Ryan is right when he says that we help others, however he fails to express the fact that we have overthrown over 14 governments in the last century. We have and are causing more peril and chaos than we are helping to rebuild. In the debate, Lexy brought up the fact that most countries correctly view us as a government that has "allowed capitalism to prevail over democracy." We are a nation filled with hypocrites who say one thing but when their own selfish interests are on the line, destroy what little credibility we have left. Those running the country don’t care about those they affect, they only care about themselves and how they can get better. Our country is in a state of false self praise and is in denial about how the world really views us. Positive views of our nation have dropped more than 25% in the last 20 years alone so how can we say we are well-liked? How can we go on with this mindless charade of brain-less patriotism when beneath us the tides are changing? How many can see beyond the greed and corruption and bring back the views we as a country once held? We have meddled in other countries far too long and our arrogance no longer feeds our credibility. We are being reduced to nothing because of our inability to let go of corruption and move on.
The pathetic thing is, our nation is completely influenced by violence. Each generation is more and more violent and due to it over 49 billion dollars are wasted per year on violence prevention, when it could be invested in the path to universal health-care and treatment for all. I love my country but I don’t understand how it has allowed inequality, ignorance, and social classes dictate what we are as a country.

I believe this country is a great country but the greatest country is a stretch. The reason I feel this way is that, yes we do help other countries when they are in need. there also is usually an unpublished secret reason for the aid we provide because as there are a lot of people looking at whats in it for them. What benefit will they get out of helping others I feel that with some time and effort we can become a role model for other countries.

I believe that America is the greatest country in the world. Although Caleb has many some interesting points I personally do not believe in what he is saying. He said that not everyone in the United States is equal which does not give them equal rights. That is not true because everyone in America has the same rights, but he then said that not everyone will be able to go to college because of its cost. This is a true statement but if a person wants to be successful they can find ways to do so even if they do not go to college. Just because not everyone can afford a college education does not mean that those people can’t lead a successful life, which is a good reason why America is the greatest country in the world.
Caleb’s next point was that America has too much violence. Well although violent videogames and movies do exist in America they are nothing compared with what goes on in other countries. The U.S. has an excessive amount of law enforcers which help to decrease crime and make America a safe place to live. Also the military does a great job of protecting the borders, not allowing war on U.S. soil. This is why America is the best country in the world.

I believe that America is by far the greatest country. First off, America is exetremely generous. There are millions of charities that help share the wealth amoung countries that need help. I agree with Ryan that whenever a disaster happens, America and the people of America are willing to help. For example, the tsunami in 2004 left Indonesia in shock and thousands of homes were swept away, leaving millions of people homeless. America took great action and set up many charities to help all of the people in Indonesia. I disagree with Caleb's statement that not all Americans are equal. In America, it does not matter what race you are or how much money you have, everyone should be treated the same and have the same rights as everybody else. These are the two main reasons why I think America is the greatest country in the world.

America is the greatest country in the world for many different reasons. The U.S. is a very safe country because it has 800,000 law enforcement personnel. It is impressive that so many people are working hard to eliminate crime in America. Also, the military in the U.S. is the strongest and most technological military in the world. Our military provides excellent protection to America. America also gives much individual freedom and there are many opportunities for everyone. All people have the potential to succeed and they can if they try hard enough. In addition, America is the most medically advanced country in the world. There is a very small threat of HIV or AIDS in the U.S., compared to many other countries in which there is a big threat.
John said that we are causing more peril and chaos than we are helping to rebuild. America is actually the most beneficial nation to other countries. The U.S. has lots of dedication to helping prevent epidemics in other countries. It also helps other places of the world when they have a disaster. There are many organizations in America that are committed to making the rest of the world as safe and healthy as the U.S. Our country definitely is not filled with people’s selfish interests. These are the reasons why America is the greatest country in the world.

I believe America is the greatest country in the world for many reasons. Everyone in the world wants to be successful and with many opportunities and many people can be here. John said not everyone has an equal opportunity to recoursed needed to succed, but i believe that it is your own choice to decide how hard you want to work for your future. If you choose not to go to college, you can still be sucessful with the plenty of jobs America has to offer. Even though times are hard now, only in America will Obama have the chance to change America and give the people whom he cares about the hundreds of more jobs they are seeking for. Also, America is the leading country in advanced medicine. Throughout the world, HIV/AIDS is a a great harm and here in America, it has decreased 40%. Also, America has a very strong U.S. military and they serve for us and do whatever they can for us to feel safe here. To other countries, "America is like an idol" and I believe it is the greatest country in the world

America is definitely the greatest country in the world. We have the world's strongest military and we do not just use it to kill people who get in our way, we use it to help protect other nations. We have troops stationed in other countries all over the world and when there is a conflict in another country, we are there to help resolve the issue.
Caleb makes a strong point that there is a lot of violence in America, there is also a lot of violence all over the world. The U.S. does not promote violence any more than other countries. Caleb said that the U.S. has spent 49 billion dollars to stop decriminalization, how does that show that we are too violent? All that shows is that the American government cares a lot about United States citizens and the government wants us to have a safe place to live. The people who have been protecting us for so many years have done so well that no country has invaded U.S. soil since the War of 1812!

In my opinion I believe that America is the greatest country in the world. Caleb made some interesting points and I will have to disagree. He says “In the United States, not everyone is equal and not everyone has the same rights” and this is clearly just not true. Everyone has the same rights; it all depends on how you decide to pursue such rights. He also mentioned that you must have money to obtain certain opportunities but that is also false. There have been times were people with not a penny to there name made something of themselves. They may not have gone to the best school but if they work on getting the grades they can get a scholarship or apply for financial aid or even take out a loan. So there are many ways that the rights and opportunities are available to all you just need to have the desire and aspiration to receive them.

Luke brought up many excellent points about America. i completely agree with him with every aspect. As the debaters discussed, we have the strongest military in the world and every man and woman in the service do amazing deeds to protect our freedoms and country and should be regarded with the highest respect. Our people support our troops and this is aid in the strong military that we have today. We also don't just use our military to display our dominance over other countries because we aren't like that. Instead we use it to bring about peace and prosperity among the world. Another great aspect of America is the standard of living that we have. It is far superior to most countries in this world. Our country also helps other countries when it comes to government problems or infections with diseases as Luke said. We have many freedoms and privileges granted to us and should be grateful for them. As Ryan said as well, we don't just worry about ourselves; we are concerned with the world as a whole and try to do our part to help as the greatest country in the world.

I believe that America is the greatest country in the world. I agree with Ryan when he says that everyone is given a chance for success, and it is the person's choice whether or not to take adventage of these opportunities. Although some people struggle financially, our government has thousands of scholarship funds available to low-income families. I disagree with Caleb when he said that the U.S. is not the best country because of violence. The violence in our country may be increasing, but it is still relatively low compared to many other parts of the world. America's military and poice force is the most technologically advanced in the world. America also leads the world in medical innovations, which is not only beneficial to our country, but we also share our innovations with countries in need. The risks of getting diseases like AIDS is much lower in the United States than in other countries. America is the best country in the world not only because we have a powerful military, innovating technology, and superb standard of living, but also because the government allows the general will of the population to vote on many important issues.

I believe America is the greatest country in the world for many reasons. Generally when you talk to people you don’t hear them say I want to move to Europe because it is so powerful and full of opportunity. America has been known as the powerhouse of the world and full of opportunity for all my life. Many people move to this country day to day and that has to mean something. In the USA citizens are offered life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness and know one can take that away from them. I also agree with Sean with his opinion on military power. We are very powerful when it comes to our military power. We have so much to offer and we have the protection we need if we were ever in danger. I also agree with what he was saying about how we do not use this power as a way to intimidate other countries, but we use it in a way to be helpful and create peace, but it helps that if we need to defend our country we have skilled men and women ready to fight at any moment. Although in the class we stated that some people don’t get opportunity in everything offered such as college, but that is not completely true. Everyone is offered the opportunity to go and there are so many ways to go even if the cost is too expensive. I believe military power, and opportunity is one of the many reasons I believe the United States is so strong.

America is not the greatest country in the world. They are given the false illusion of strength and power by merely policing the world with its massive military when it cannot even change things in its own borders. Americas technology is not the best. Many other countries have become far more advanced. Its health care plans are chaotic and ill organized where as many countries offer universal health care. Many of Americas problems come from the idea of the individual being more important then the common good. If health care was universal instead of being paid for by individuals everyone would be covered. Its the drive of the individual that crushes the common good. id o not doubt that the united states had its golden age of inventions, discovery and wealth but those days have long come and gone. the dollar is no longer the top currency. Our economy on the vast decline, and millions losing jobs. Our government is corrupt and flawed. Just look at the recent news about the Illnois governor who was auctioning off the senate seat held by our current president. It was his greed and ambition that caused such problems. This is why i must disagree with Joe. IN this current America competition is to fierce. Yes maybe one person out of a million will defy those unlikely odds of making a name for them self from nothing but the sweat of there brow and the strength of there back, but what of the others? What happens to those who cannot over come the impoverished lifestyle they were born into. You hear stories of success and triumph in America but thats because no one wants to hear about the failure. No one wants to listen to the losers and the beaten. There was a time when anyone could do anything, when America was truly free but like i said, those days are over.

I believe that America has become the greatest country in the world. Ryan said that "America doesn't just worry about themselves, they worry about the world as a whole." This is a very true point, because America does arrange a lot of foreign aid, especially like what Robbie said in Indonesia after the tsunami of 2004. Another thing is that America is full of opportunities for everyone, and it is up to that individual in order to make their own lives. Everyone in America has equal right. When Caleb said that "Not everyone is equal and not everyone has the same rights" I disagree. The idea about colleges being too expensive for those who wish to pursue it seems pretty false. It is true that colleges are expensive, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the right thing to do. Plenty of people can make a living for themselves, without going to colleges. There are many opportunities for each and every person in America and it is up to those persons to chose their own fate.

Today we live comfortably in our society, it may seem perfect to us because we are indeed, one of the most technologically advanced, we have a supple supply of food, and we shop till we drop. We don’t see this in foreign countries nowadays; we see countries in poverty, begging for food, dieing on the streets, with nothing but bones bulging out. America was built with the intention to create a united nation of freedom, and prosperity. Indeed, America has accomplished this goal, America has no heritage. America’s heritage comes from all over the world. However, America has grown into something the world envies and hates. Why? The reason, today America walks about the streets in high fashion, with the latest technology, the latest clothing line, whatever is considered “popular”. America used to care about its people and the world, they used to care how to benefit society as a whole, but today that idea is lost. America has grown to be selfish, we care, but we only care for ourselves. John and Caleb talk about the inequality amongst the rich and poor in our country. Compared to other countries, our conditions may seem not as bad. However, unless someone has actually experienced living as a homeless, you would not understand the misery and the horrendous conditions that do still exist in America. Luke and Sean argued that America is the greatest country because America has the strongest military force. That does not make American the greatest country; it makes America a strong country. There is a difference between greatest and strongest. We live in Winchester, one of the most rich suburbs in Massachusetts. All kids here grow up living fulfilling life, outside of Winchester, what do you really know? Besides from surrounding suburb towns, poor, needy towns have never been heard of. America tries to define itself as the ultimate nation, the greatest, perfect place there is on Earth right now. If one really looked beneath the surface instead of what one sees, you’d recognize America is not the greatest country.

America is not the greatest country in the world. Ryan said that America is great because they we use are vast military to help the world. This is something that our military tries to do, but they often fail and do so in their own political interests. For example in Iraq, we occupied Iraq because they had nuclear weapons and a dictator. However once we removed the dictator the people found that the country was worse off because their was a huge civil war also there was no nuclear weapons to be found which was the main motivator for invading the country. Many people believe that we entered Iraq to remove the dictator not because he was violating the lives of innocent people but because his campaigns were bring up oil prices. Ryan also said that America is great because it helps other countries. I agree that a great country need to help other however a great country needs to be able to help themselves. Katrina was one of the worst responses to a disaster in history. It to rescuers five days to help some parts of New Orleans, that is unacceptable. In conclusion America is not the greatest country in the world because it has it cause problems and cannot fix it’s own problems.

I believe that America is the greatest country in the world. The reason I believe this is because everyone here has all of these different oppurtunities to work with.I agree with Ryan when he said that a lot of other countries rely on the United States. We give out a lot of resources to different countrys and also some of the medicine we have here is much more effective than that in another country. Just like what the people in the video said today, an example of this is AIDS. They may not have found a cure yet but here in the U.S we are trying to help them out the best we can. Yes, maybe people here have it but their is a larger percentage in other countries, such as Africa.
I disagree with Caleb when he said that the United States is not the greatest country because only some people get certain oppurtunities such as going to a good college. I truly believe in the saying,"you can do anything if you put your mind to it." I think that this is true with college because if you really want something you will work hard to get it. If your in highschool you can find yourself a job and then save the money you earned to put towards your college funds. Honestly if someone in this country feels like they dont have the same oppurtunities that someone else has, its there fault. There are plenty of jobs out there for people to have and maybe you might not be as rich as someone else but atleast you will be getting somewhere.

In my opinion America is may be a great country, but it does have some flaws. America may seem as though it is a land of benefits and success and it far more advanced than other countries, but it is certainly not fair. Some, most people must work much harder in order to receive the same benefit for those who are born with inheritance and money and do little work to prosper. It is also hard for many Americans to afford to go to college, many of them do not have enough money to afford one. This is because many people are much less fortunate and may have the potential to be great, but do not have enough resources to start with. Also, America is one the most violently influenced country in the world. The films and video games created a bad influence on children of America who will one day grow up and run our country. Will their violent behavior effect the world then? Also, Global Warming has increased in the past 40 years because of the use of gas in America and is still causing it to happen. Also, it may seem as though America has helped many countries prosper, but on the other hand, America has also ignored many other countries in need which influences the other countries badly. That is why I believe that America is in fact, not the best country in the world.

I think america is the greastest country in the world for many reasons. First like ryan said America doesn't only worry about themsevles helps many other countries. Are government is strong and americans have many rights. The government makes sure that everyone is taken care of and has food and clean water. America also has very strong Army. There hasnt been a war on american soil since the civil war. America has over two million men and women serving. America has roughly 680,000 law enforcement protecting the people of america and lowering the crime by alot. Finally we have amazing technology that is advancing everyday. Our medicine and doctors are great. We help many other countries with health problems, and diseases. That is why america is the greatest country in the world

I believe that America is the greatest country in the world. I believe this for many reasons. I agree with what Robbie says about how America has many charities and helps other countries. America donates millions and millions of dollars to poorer countries to help them with education or diseases. Millions of dollars are donated to prevent the spread of AIDS in african countries. Like Robbie said in 2004 there was a tsunami in indonesia. The people there were left with nothing. All of there belongings were destroyed, but America set up foundations and such to raise money for them.
America also has many opportunities for anyone to succeed. Anyone can go to college. There are no restrictions. It might be harder for some poorer people, but they still have the same opportunities if they work hard eneough. They have the chance to move up in the world while in some other countries they might not get that opportunity.

America is not the greatest country in the world. Before the debate today i was leaning towards the pro side but the more i listened, the more i realized that we are not so great. People may say that money isn't an issue for getting a good education at a top notch college because of scholarships. But in reality not everyone can receive a scholarship and you will eventually have to pay for college if you choose to go. Health care isn't provided to everyone because America is all about the individual and only those that can afford it. Like Connor said America's economy is on the decline and the dollar isn't worth much anymore. Millions of people have been laid off from their job and most likely there are more to come.
Yes like Ryan said America has gone into many other countries to help out with our military. But have you ever thought that what we're doing is angering these countries. We have overthrown 14 governments and caused more damage than success. Why is it that American armies get to be stationed in all of these countries around the world? You don't see French or Afghanistan or Chinese armies in America. What gives us the authority to say that we can be stationed in their countries? The truth is we don't have any authority and what we're doing is causing more chaos than accomplishments making us not the greatest country in the world

Unknown said...

America is not the greatest country in the world for a number of reasons. First is that their are many other counries that are just as technologically advanced as we are and put it to better use than we do. Most countries view America as the peace maker country where that UN is situated and where opportunites are offered to make individual persons lives better. But in fact America in not the land of opportunity it is the land where opportinities are offered to people who can offord it and who work their entire lives to allow themselves to achieve them. Like scholarships people who can't afford the tuition for good colleges have to get aids for themselves so that they can go to college and someone else helps them pay for it. Or you could just get a scholarship. Because there are many scholarships out there and but believe me the work loat the must be completed in order just apply for them is extremely difficult. As Ryan said America has the greatest military in the world and that suppositivly makes us the strongest and advanced country in the world. When actually it makes us have more responsibility because our allies and even our enimies are counting on us to make peace with them of help them when they are in need. I think that this is a bad thing because while our giant army is off fighting some war that we just about started. Our country is falling apart because of some other problem that has taken a toll on America because the government has been focused on other matters. Again Ryan said that America is the most powerful country in the world but that wasn't the question. The question was if America wast the greates country in the world, and being the most powerful has nothing to do with being the greatest country. So in conclusion I do not think that America is the greatest country in the world.
