Fear is not an effective motivator. Fear is an affective motivator for the person causing the fear. However, those who are in fear do not gain any motivation. Fear causes the victim to do what other demand of them, or they follow what the crowd is doing. Fear hides a person's potential to strive for greatness because fear overpowers their ability to think for themselves. Fear causes one to be vulnerable and an easy target for those causing fear. Fear is a disadvantage for those who can’t overcome it. Fear is powerful, but it weakens the person who is fearful. While fear is an obstacle victims must overcome to achieve their goals, fear is an advantage for those causing fear. By causing fear, people gain strength because the weak are not competition for power. While some people use fear as an advantage others use it as an escape route from their own fear and weaknesses. From experience, I can say that fear does not motivate me. It keeps me from doing things I want to do because I lack determination. Fear takes a toll on me, and as well as many other people. Fear holds a person back, secreting their capability to do something great.
Fear does prove to be a great motivator. There are many reasons why fear works, fear plays off of the aspects of people's lives that are sensitive toj them generally things the have little to no knowledge about which allows it to be affective. The reason fear is affective is the person scaring the victim just has to find one of these aspects in the victims life and target that, the victim will prove to become very ma liable. The victim will bend to your will and become very obedient, depending on the severity of the idle treat made . The reason fear works so well is that people are very susceptible to fear because there are so many sensitive topics and thing we don't understand in the world
I disagree with bonnie because fear is a good motivator. People will work harder and do more if someone scares them into it. I do agree with bonnie that fear is very powerful because if a person is scared of a boss or coworker then they are much more likely going to do better work and try harder because they don’t want to be hurt in any way. Fear is a powerful motivator but it should be used because it is wrong to scare someone into doing something. Fear ruins people’s lives and should never be used to motivate someone but it is used everyday everywhere. People are motivated by fear every day. People have the fear of losing their job if their work isn’t good enough. People would be a lot happier if they weren’t motivated by fear by the problem is nothing would get done in society. Also with fear being a motivator then the people are constantly worried and scared and this makes society a very hostile place because everyone is uptight and suspecting others of plotting against them. I have had fear used as a motivator when I do a project try to do my best because I’m worried about getting a bad grade and getting in trouble because of it. Fear is a good motivator but it is bad to use because it then puts people under a great deal of stress and it then becomes harmful to their health. - Ryan Kelley
People are raising interesting points. Does fear always limit our ability to reach our potential, or is there a certain degree or type of fear that can be beneficial?
Yes, fear is an effective motivator. I believe that fear is not only effective but it is the best motivator. This is because when someone is scared of something that could happen to them it gives them a great deal of motivation in whatever they are doing. For example if I do not do my homework I fear it bringing down my grade. This could cause my GPA to go down and maybe cause me not getting into the college I would like to. Since I fear the idea of not getting into college it gives me the incentive to do my homework everyday. If I did not have any fear about my future I would spend my free time playing videogames or watching TV, it is the fear of what could happen as a result of not doing my school work which makes me do it. The concept of fear can help you in any aspect of your life. You could fear not making a sports team or not getting a good job which allows you to work your hardest and avoid your fear. The only negative aspect of using fear as a motivator is that people would constantly be scared of something. Then again if there was nothing to be scared of then people would have no motivation to get anything done. This is why fear is an effective motivator.
I disagree with Nick because I do not think fear is a good motivator. Some people try to escape the fear, rather than becoming motivated from it. For example, if a really important test is coming up, some students might try to avoid it because they don't want to stress about studying. Fear can also hide a person's personality and things that they would like to achieve. Fear can also hold back many opportunities that someone would be interested in. The only person would really enjoy fear would be the person who is actually giving the fear itself. If a person already has many insecurities, fear can just drag that person even lower. With all of this said, I greatly think that fear is not a good motivator for anyone
Fear is an effective motivator. I agree with Nick that fear motivates people into doing things that they might not want to do. If someone is scared of a certain outcome, they will do whatever it takes to prevent that outcome. This will allow them to do great things and do better than what they would have done if they were not scared. Fear gives people extra motivation to do even better than normal. Fear motivates me because I do not want certain things to happen so I do whatever I can to prevent bad things from happening. An advantage of using fear to influence others is that they will do whatever you tell them to because they are scared of what might happen if they do not listen to you. A disadvantage is that if someone isn't scared of what you are threatening them with, they will not do what you tell them to do anymore. Fear can sometimes bring out the worst in people, but it is a great motivator because it will get people to do things as good as they can to prevent something bad from happening.
Fear is a very effective motivator. Many things that people do every day are influenced by their fear. I don’t arrive late to my classes for fear of getting in trouble with the teacher. I also don’t do drugs for fear of getting addicted and becoming unhealthy. These are the positive motivations that fear can cause. Fear can also create negative motivations. People often scare others into being motivated to do something stupid. For example, a child might scare another child into giving them the answers on a test by threatening to do something horrible to them if they don’t. I do things all the time that is motivated by my fear of what the outcome could be. Also, fear can be a disadvantage when a person decides not to try something new or unusual for fear of failing. For example, somebody might really want to play basketball, but they don’t try out for the team for fear of being embarrassed by their skills. I disagree with Bonnie because she said that people in fear don’t gain any motivation. I believe that people in fear are greatly motivated, whether it be good or bad motivation, by fear.
I believe that fear can be a great motivator. Fear can motivate people who believe that they might fail something and want to achieve better. During class the other day when we all wrote paragraphs to scare others into doing something, we were using fear to motivate them and scare them into not doing it. I believe that fear is a last resort for people who can not be motivated enough to do something. It can work, but other motivators can be much better. I agree with Bonnie that fear is a disadvantage for people who can not overcome it. Fear can motivate someone, but only up to a certain point. Fear motivates people to avoid failure, but nothing greater. That is why i believe it is not a great motivator for those who would like to succeed. People should find different motivators in life and follow paths that they enjoy, other than doing something that they do not like, letting fear take them over. Personally, I try not to use fear to motivate myself in life too much. Sometimes, however I must use fear to achieve things in life. Everyone is motivated by fear, but some motivate to a higher degree, in which the person uses fear all the time in life and does not achieve anything at all. That is what I think about fear being an effective motivator.
I believe that fear is an effective motivator. I agree with Ryan because I think people tand to work harder if they are scared into doing soemthing. Some types of fear can be beneficial. For example, the fear of failing a test or quiz would motivate the kids to study harder to get a better grade. I agree with Ryan that certain types of fear should not be used at all, such as violent threats, but they are used everywhere all around the world. I agree with Nick when he said that fear was an effective motivator beacause if there was nothing to be scared of then people would have no motivation to get anything done. Fear is an effective motivator because people will do whatever they can in order to stop bad things from happening.
Yes, fear is an effective motivator because it forces people to do something that they don't want to do. Fear is displayed in many different ways and forms and everyone has their own weaknesses and fears which enable other people to use this fears against them to obtain a level or power. I agree with Luke with how people react to fear because they are afraid of a certain outcome and will do anything to prevent it. I believe that fear also motivates me because sometimes I don't want something to happen so I'll try to prevent it in some way or another. Fear has many advantages to influence others behaviors but at the same time has many disadvantages. One advantage would be it helps people stay competencies and strive to live a good life because it will make them happier than if they are struggling to survive on low wages and short food supply. One disadvantage is that it can corrupt the minds of little ones if you teach them something is wrong through fear. This will result in the child growing up in constant fear of defying this and will never challenge them to be great.
I believe fear is a effective motivator. I agree with bonnie and how she says that the affective motivator is the person causing the fear and not the person who is being scared. It would be very effective because it scares someone into doing something even though they don't want to. But they are scared to face the consequences of what will happen if they don't. Fear does not motivate me. Fear might make me do something to avoid the consequences but it does not motivate me. The advantages using fear to influence others is that you will probably get what you want depending on how much you scare them or trick them into doing something. The disadvantages are that you going probably get in trouble depending on how threatening you are and it also shows that you can't achieve anything by doing it the right way only by scaring people into doing things for you or because you want them to even though its not the right thing.
Fear is only an effective motivator of a period of time. At the beginning the scared person will succumb to the fear, however over time they will become less and less afraid. Also the scared person will start to see what they can get away with before the consequences set in and therefore if they get away with anything then they will become less and less afraid. I am motivated by fear. The reason that I do homework is not because I find it stimulating or entertaining but do it because I am afraid of the consequences. I want to do well in school so that I can go to a good collage and be successful in life, however I fear that if I do not do my homework then my grades will slip and that goal will fall apart. It is my fear of failure that motivates me. The advantages of using fear to motivate people are present. Fear effectively gets people to do what you want without complaint because they do not want to suffer the consequences. However fear also has disadvantages. It is unforgiving, one slip and the scared person will not be effectively motivated and will no longer do what you want.
Under the right circumstances fear can be a very effective motivator. When you threaten someone or if you find out what that person is most afraid of or afraid of losing they will most likely do what ever it is you are trying to get them to do. Fear can make the victim do what you want, but it can also make them deviate from the original plan and make it some how turn against you. I find fear a little difficult to motivate me unless the consequences are so life changing that I will probable give in. Other people can use fear as an advantage that they can use against you and then turn you into the person who is fearful instead of the person inflicting the fear.
Fear is one of the most influencial means of motivaion. If one is scared and that fear is exploited, there would be no way to stop ones power because the fear would criple them completely. I do not think that this is a positive means of motivtion however. This is because the oppresed really don't want to follow what they are forced to do because they are being black mailed so once ones leverage is gone, there's not much one can do to stop an angry revenge. I completely agree with Bonnie when she said that a lot of people use fear as an escape from their own fears. This is true because the oppresed's fears mask their own and gives them the illusion of power. Like an illusion, what they have as power is non existant and once there is no fear, they have no power. They have no direct power. Fear is always an ihibitor to what we can do.
I believe fear is an effective motivator for many reasons. Fear can get people to do lots of things just because a person is afraid of what the consequence might be. Throughout history many powerful leaders have used fear as a way to gain strength among people. People will amount to anything to avoid certain consequences they are afraid of. The advantages of fear is it can keep societies from going corrupt at times. People will stay within the boundaries if there as strict consequences for their actions. Sometimes without fear things can get out of hand. There is a difference between fear that can be overcome and fear that is to great of a challenge to beat. The disadvantages of fear is that sometimes people can hold it against you and get you to do things that you normally wanted want to do. Fear can cause people to stay civil at times or create crimes in hopes of not potentially getting hurt by the person forcing them to do the task. I agree with Sean when he says that fear can corrupt the little ones. Sometimes children listen to adult conversations, and then they hear what people are talking about but because they are young they don’t fully understand it causing them to live in fear. Often children are taught to overcome their fears to prevent this from happening. But sometimes certain fears that seem to scary for one to overcome are implanted in a child’s head and then therefore they are left scared and unable to live a carefree life. Fear are time can motivate me. I have had certain fears where I was so scared of what might happen it prevented me from doing fun things. These fears are ridiculous to most people, but for me it can really restrict me from doing certain things. People can sometimes elaborated on a fear because fear can cause the mind to do crazy things. So fear can also cause a person to go crazy if the fear is strong enough to over power the mind.
John Lacey has many important parts in his opinion but I disagree with him and believe fear is not an effective motivator. I believe this because fear only causes one to do worse and limits their ability to strive. Fear will only make people discouraged and feel like they can not accomplish anything. Fear paralysis us, causing us not to act on desires that we have in our heart to achieve. Fear does not motivate me because it causes me to look upon what I fear rather than the task I am trying to accomplish. For example, I play point guard position in basketball. If I am afraid that every time I make a mistake, my coach will take me out; then I will focus on that fear rather than playing my game with the talent that I possess. Fear is an advantage for the person causing the fear because it paralysis the opponent mentally. Another advantage of fear is that when faced with fear, the one who fears can rise above the situation and overcome the torment by focusing only on the victory. One of many disadvantages is that the Bible (1 John) says "...perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment." The person who is oppressed with fear is always in a state of distress. Therefore, they usually have a hard time overcoming this distress and do not accomplish the task with excellence. -Caleb Unni
I feel that fear is a motivator in certain circumstances. Fear is a good motivator when you are trying to face it. When someone has to do something they dont want to because their scared they will try their best to accomplish it so that they can defeat this scared reaction that they have. Fear is not good when you dont have the ability to compete against it. Some people are afraid to face their fears and this cause it to not become so much of a motivator. For me fear is a complete motivator. I am always trying to face my fears and by doing so I become much more successful in life. I agree with Luke that fear is an advantage when you use it against some people. If you tell someone something and there afraid they become weaker which makes it easier to control what their desisions are.Fear can be used as a disadvantage when someone says something by accident and it cause you to become afraid. An example of this is if your playing a sport and the last points depend on you and someone tells you no pressure, you really know there is pressure so you become nervous and afraid that you are going to lose the game. This just messes you up completely because now you are thinking about it to much and cant focus.
Yes, I do feel that fear is an affective motivator. This is because everyone has a different fear. That fear makes them who they are. If someone has a fear of failing they will do whatever they can to not fail. For me, I fear of failing, and not being able to get into a good college. Knowing to do my best and focus I know that there won't be anything to fear for. If I am assigned something I try my best to complete the task, so it doesn't harm me in the future. For some, it could be a fear of loosing their family, especially these days with the economy and not having enough money to pay for them, which motivates them into working more shifts. I believe that if you fear something you will work twice as much harder to achieve it. I don't believe there are many disadvantages because the only thing is you don't accomplish facing your fear of whatever it is. Depending on how bad your fear can be, it can prevent you from what you want to accomplish. The motivation of fear helps a lot of people work harder and have the better ability to become sucessful. People look at fear in many different ways good and bad, but I think fear is a great motivator.
I think that fear is a very effective motivator. Fear can cause you to work harder and achieve what you want to get done. I agree with Nick when he talks about fear in school. Most people are scared to do poorly in classes so that motivates them to do their work. People are also scared to get good grades to get into college. That fear is what motivates them and is why people try in school. They want to get a future for themselves and fear helped them. Without that fear what would motivate anyone to do anything good in their life. Fear can be bad in some cases. A lot of fear can cause stress in your life. Stress can be potentially harmful to your health. Fear motivates me to do or not do a lot of things. Like celia says about drugs, I dont do drugs because i am afraid i will either get addicted to them, get in trouble for them possibly going to jail and even dieing from them. Fear is a great motivator for people to have.
